Why ceramic
Why ceramic tint suits an EV.
In an EV, every bit of heat the A/C has to remove comes out of the battery. Here’s what ceramic film does about the heat that comes through the glass.
The A/C runs on the battery
In an EV, the air conditioning draws on the same battery that drives the car. The U.S. government’s fueleconomy.gov says the A/C’s effect can be even larger, as a share, on an EV than on a gas car, and that it depends partly on how strong the sun is.
Heat costs range
In AAA’s 2026 lab tests at 95°F, with the climate set to 72°F, three 2025 EVs lost an average of 8.5% of their driving range compared with 75°F, and AAA attributes that to cabin cooling and thermal management. That was hot air alone, in a lab; out in the sun, the glass lets in more heat for the A/C to remove. We won’t promise you miles, but the less of the sun’s heat that gets in, the less cooling the car has to do.
Ceramic goes after infrared
LLumar’s nano-ceramic films target infrared, the part of sunlight that causes the most heat. Among the shades we carry, Pinnacle rejects up to 90% of it and Stratos up to 97%. In LLumar’s words, you’ll cool down faster and stay cool longer.
A lot of glass overhead
Tesla describes all-glass roofs on the Model 3, Model Y and Model S, and a glass roof on Cybertruck; Rivian’s R1 and R2 have glass roofs too. Tesla says its own shade for the Model X’s front upper windshield blocks two-thirds of the light and heat that come through it.
Parked in the sun
Tesla’s Cabin Overheat Protection and Rivian’s Climate Hold and Pet Comfort run on battery energy while you’re parked, and Tesla’s battery tips say to park in the shade on hot days when you use its climate features. Film can’t find you shade, but ceramic film keeps most of the sun’s infrared heat from coming through the glass.
What the makers offer
Both films in Tesla’s own tint program are nano-ceramic, and Tesla says they reject heat; Rivian says its own tint blocks infrared heat to keep the interior cool. Both programs use XPEL film; we install LLumar.

Clear film · AIR 80
Every film blocks more than 99% of UV. IR heat rejected is LLumar’s selective IR rejection (SIRR): the share of solar infrared (780–2500 nm) that isn’t directly transmitted through the glass; each film shows its best figure among the shades we carry. LLumar states that Pinnacle and Stratos cause no signal interference, and makes no claim either way for the others. Descriptions follow LLumar’s own wording. LLumar AIR
Heat protection you can barely see.
AIR is LLumar’s clear film, separate from FormulaOne. It uses the nano-ceramic technology found in premium tint, in a film that’s virtually invisible, so you can keep heat out without darker windows and your EV keeps its factory look.
- Nearly clearIt lets 77% of visible light through on clear glass, lighter than any of our tint shades (the lightest lets in 56%), so it doesn’t change your car’s look.
- Infrared heatRejects up to 86% of the sun’s infrared heat, which LLumar says keeps your cabin cooler.

- An all-glass roof over the cabin, plus the side windows and the rear window.
- Model Y
- Side windows, the rear liftgate glass and the glass roof, including the six-seat Model Y L.
- Model S
- An all-glass roof, plus the side and rear windows.
- Model X
- What Tesla calls the front upper windshield, plus the side and rear windows. Arizona allows windshield film only as a strip across the top, so we’ll talk through what fits.
- Cybertruck
- Armor-glass side windows, a glass roof and a fixed rear window. The body is bare stainless steel with no clear coat, so call us to talk through paint protection.
On a Tesla
Made for a car that’s mostly glass.
What changes how we choose and fit film on a Tesla.
- The glass roofTesla rates its roof, windshield and windows below 2 on the UV Index, so UV is already handled. What ceramic film adds is protection from infrared heat.
- Cabin Overheat ProtectionWhen it’s on, it runs the A/C once the cabin passes 105°F (or a temperature you set), for up to 12 hours, using battery energy.
- Your phone is the keyA Tesla unlocks with your phone over Bluetooth; Pinnacle and Stratos are metal-free and won’t interfere with it.
- The windshield camerasForward-facing cameras sit on the windshield above the rear-view mirror, and Tesla asks that their view stay clear. We keep film out of that area.
- Paint protectionSelf-healing LLumar film on the bumper, hood, fenders and mirrors, or the whole car, on the painted models. Tesla’s manual warns that wraps and adhesive film over its cameras or sensors can keep Autopark and Lane Assist from working as intended, so we trim the film around them.
- Paint protection careGive it 72 hours before the first wash. After that, hand wash it: LLumar warns that pressure washers and automatic car washes can lift the film’s edges, which its warranty doesn’t cover.

- The three-row SUV. On 2025 and newer, the glass roof is either a fixed tint or the Dynamic Glass Roof, which tints itself at the touch of a button.

- The smaller SUV, delivered since June 2026: a fixed-tint panoramic glass roof, and on Performance and Premium a rear window that drops into the liftgate.

What changes how we choose and fit film on a Rivian.
- The roofRivian’s glass roofs block more than 99.9% of UV, so film here is about infrared heat. Rivian gives no guidance on film over the Dynamic Glass Roof, so we’ll look at yours first.
- Range on hot daysClimate Hold, Pet Comfort and preconditioning all use battery energy while you’re parked.
- Your phone is the keyRivian’s Digital Key uses ultra-wideband and NFC on 2025 and newer; earlier R1s use Bluetooth. Pinnacle and Stratos won’t interfere with either.
- The windshield cameraA camera sits behind the rear-view mirror, and Rivian asks that the windshield around it stay clear, so we leave that area bare.
- Paint protectionSelf-healing LLumar film where gravel hits: the bumper and hood, the fenders and rocker panels, the mirrors and headlights. Rivian suggests film or tape around the front tow hooks, to limit scratches when recovery gear is attached.
- Rivian’s guidanceRivian’s guides ask that its cameras, radar and sensors stay clear of film, and say to use only Rivian-supplied paint protection film, so we’ll talk that through with you and trim film well clear of them.

- Pricing
- Teslas: call (928) 759-0149 for your model’s price and a time. Rivians: book tint online or send a quote request, and we confirm the price before any work starts. AIR is priced for your vehicle.
- Warranty
- Tesla and Rivian both sell XPEL film through their own programs and say nothing either way about other brands of window film. FormulaOne films are backed by LLumar’s manufacturer’s warranty; ask us about the terms for your film.
- Arizona law
- Front side windows must let in at least 33% of light, so the darkest we carry for them are Classic in 35%, or Pinnacle and Stratos in 50%. The rear sides and back glass can be any shade. Read the full summary
- After the install
- Keep the windows up for 48 hours while the film cures, and wait a week before cleaning them. After that, use an ammonia-free cleaner (Rivian recommends one for its interior glass) and a soft cloth.
